Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hello all,
I want to dynamically link an ALAP task to a buffer (an internal buffer, not a project buffer). When I do so and recalculate, the ALAP task drifts to the end of the project.
How can I dynamically link and keep the ALAP task that is a predec. of the buffer in its proper timed place?

Be well and thanks,
Eric

MS Project Buffers

Hope this helps, even if only to communicate the idea to others.

Note that a SF link is driving "ALAP" task (ironically an ASAP task). Something is still missing as it is not deducting remaining buffer amount, manual adjustments can be error prone. To get full Dynamic Task Buffer functionality I believe you will need add-on software.

I believe in the application of Buffers but without the use of these Buffer Activities. I do not use Buffer Activities because their use fool computations of float, same as finish constraints I always had issues with. I prefer to target early for my end of job as well as for intermediate milestone dates without obstructing my view of CPM/PDM computations. How much early I target is my buffer, as simple as this.

Best regards,
Rafael
