Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we finalise the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Has anyone EVER shared a schedule of theirs on request from a Planning Planet posting?

We get a lot of posts on plannnig planet from members asking other members to send them a pdf or xer or whatever of a schedule.

To my knowledge, no-one has ever done so.

So I am considering as a moderator replying to such postings to say that we don't do that on PP, and then locking the thread from any more posts.

Before I start doing so, I wanted to check with you all if you felt this was a good move. -Asking for schedules is not against the forum rules, so I don't really have the right to stop people unless the community feels it is a good idea.

Cheers,

G

Thanks for your responses,

I agree with Mike that sharing complete programmes does junior planners more harm than good, and with Rafael that any offers to share documents should be done via file-hosting rather than email / PM.

This still leaves us with the problem of the begging posts, which I personally find quite annoying for the reasons Rafael describes. But since there is no consensus that this shouldn't be allowed, I won't moderate them.

Daniel: I absolutely agree that "Passing the knowledge and experience to the next generation of planners will be our best legacy". I am not convinced sending them complete programmes does this, however -You can't teach an aspiring novelist how to write by sending them a novel, for example.

Another point is that I don't think I have ever created a genuine programme that wasn't the intellectual property of my employers / clients, so I have no right to share them even if I wanted to.

Hence I won't be sharing programmes with anyone on PP.

please, please, please, please, please ....

Photobucket

the problem is with the beggar as well as with the one making the offer.

It is very annoying when someone ask the silly request ... Please, please. please and you go to the thread to investigate something relevant many times just to see such begging.

I believe those begging are as much at fault as the person who creates the begging frenzy.

The rule shall be you only make such offerings by posting the offering on a file sharing service, then those interested go and download without interrupting the discussion.

Let them make their hand dirty, with R & D in the initial stage of planning carrier rather than getting ready made.

Hi Gary

Sending a complete programme to a trainee planner will do more harm than good.

There is no such thing as a standard project and newcomers will not recognise the unique aspects of the programme that they are sent.

Sending off sections to demonstrate first principles is fine but not the whole project.

But then again I do not think locking the thread is the right approach either - I over write email addresses with the text "Use Private Message Service" and leave it at that.

Best regards

Hi Gary,

I believed novice planners or new planners are the ones requesting for such copies, either  1.) to make thier life easier or 2.) to make it as a model when developing their programmes. I believed there is nothing wrong in sharing our own works and experiences especially to new comers for as long as it does not violate company secrecy codes and ethics.  We are all here afterall to share ideas especially to beginners and also to learn in the process.  Passing the knowledge and experience to the next generation of planners will be our best legacy.

Best regards,

Daniel
