Senior Planning Engineer, Brown & Root Vickers, Great Man-made River

START Date:

END Date:

This project is one of the largest civil engineering projects undertaken in the world.  The concept is to take potable water from two aquifer fields in Tazerbo and Sarir, 1000km south of Ajdabiya, via a 4.3m diameter concrete pipeline from each to firstly a mixing reservoir in Ajdabiya, and from there by two separate lines, one to Benghazi and the other along the coastal plain to Sirte.  The 4.3m diameter pipeline was manufactured in 4.5m length sections, in two strategically placed plants constructed for the purpose, and shipped along dedicated haul roads constructed and maintained by the project.  As senior planning engineer (Ajdabiya), I was responsible for the laying of the twin lines from 150kms south into Ajdabiya Reservoir and the two separate lines 500kms to Sirte and 100kms north to Benghazi.  I was also responsible for planning the construction of the Ajdabiya reservoir, which was constructed using compacted marl
