Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we deliver the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

hi everyone !

we don’t have any network licences of P3, so everytime we have to be several of us opening the same project, we :

- store the project on a server
- run NetSet on a computer of the network
- create the users, assign passwords
- assign the access rights to the project
- copy the USERFIL.P3 file on every computer of the network

and it works real fine, except maybe for the speed of the network, which could be -I guess- improved with network licences.

the problem is, we currently use P3 on a 2 computer network. but we don’t have control over the additionnal computers that are going to connect to the network, which are external companies computers.
I tried to access the project from a brand new computer, and what a surprise, we can open the project even if we’re logged under any name. we can see that the only authorized user is the one I’ve created for the occasion, but if I don’t copy the USERFIL.P3 file onto this particular computer, the access rights seem to disappear.

does anyone have any idea of what happens here ?

thank you !

that’s a shame no other security options are available... but that’s a standalone licence, that’s true.
I’ll try to assign security rights by windows user name.

thank you !

Johnny,

You are using a standalone version of P3 and storing your file into network therefore the usersname for any P3 standalone is as default when it was installed and can be use to open any projects. Userfil.P3 is automatically generated when it is not present on any computer with P3 program. It acts like when you copied the programme to any other computer with out copying the userfil.p3 or back-up your files and open to any P3 program. The only way to prevent from opening your programme from another computer is to set a security access on your network folder where you stored your programme.

Rodel
