Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

I’m really hoping someone can help me with this one. I’ve seen P3 do some odd things before but I’ve never seen it do this before. I had a MSProject’03 file that I converted to a .MPX file and then converted to a P3 file. After checking that the logic transfered correctly, recoded the entire database, changed all of the activity types to Tasks & made all of the resources non-driving, I changed the data date and hit F9. The data date moved but it didn’t push any of my activities. Now I have unactualized activities to the left of the data date. Also, I removed a few SNET constrants and when I calced they slammed all the way back to the project start date - about a month prior to the data date.

Anybody got any thoughts???

You can also try the P3 corrupt file-fixer program C:\P3WIN\P3PROGS\PFXW.EXE to see if it will straighten things out.

Lastly, copy the project using the Tools \ Project Utility \ Copy function and use the copy. This often works when everything else fails.

Good luck!

Data Date!

You may have following things: -
1) May be you are seeing only target bar
2) May be you have subprojects defined
3) Something new - You should elaborate: must be finish constraints or schedule option.

I have done this job several time. But conversion helps you partly not totally. You have to check the links and lag before scheduling.

If your problem is still there, then send me your project backup copy. I will check for you.

Hi Ed,

Over the years I have been involved with the migration of several MSP programmes into P3 and have come to the sad conclusion the only way to ensure success, is reinput or better still leave it in MSP. You can do things like move data from MSP into Excel and then import intp P3, this can speed up the process by saving key strokes etc.

However programmes that have been "successfully" migrated can and do go "belly up",leaving you to try and sort out dates, logic etc.

I must congratulate on your F9 / Data Date problem, the only time I have seen that was when a planner was using the F9 key and his dates failed to move. The problem was resolved when it discovered he was only displaying his Target Plan on the screen.

Congratulations, you have succeeded where others have failed! You finally were able to turn P3 into Microsoft Project. You should be able to make a fortune on this.
