Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi, in Tools->Options->Earned Value, P3 asks "when calculating earned and planned values, use the budget from?", and then gives two options: 1) Current project, 2) Target Project. By default, the current project is selected. Theory says that we use current projects and target projects in order to measure performance. So, if we are going to use current project and not the target, isn’t this a contradiction? shouldn’t the target project be selected by default? If the target project is not selected, then why do we create one? I’ll wait for the comments of the experts. Thank you.

Vanessa your right...........
Vanessa,

I have used this option when after baselining a schedule I have entered unapproved variations into the current schedule, with a budget. I then have the option to establish the earned value based on original scope (Target1) or current scope plus unapproved variations(current). In the real world variations can progress before approval (although again theory tells us this is taboo).

There are a lot of schedules that I have come across as a consultant that have no baselines. I suppose what Primavera is also doing is making allowances for those who do not apply a target.
