Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Activity time issues creating constraint issues

I inherited a project schedule for a MILCON project in Southern California.  The project was subject to a long delay before actual construction began, so there are issues of time and money to tidy up.  In reviewing the older schedules that are part of the forensic review I discovered an activity time oddity I am not familiar with.  I hope someone might be familiar with this issue and able to direct my attention to some method to correct the problem.

The images included should help visualize the issue.  I normally create my own schedules - this is the first construction project wherein the Contractor is the developer and controller of the scheduling process.  Thus, the issue highlighted in the images is not one I have been privy to in my scheduling experience.

As you can see, the activity listed has both a start and finish time schedule for the end of the day - 1600 hrs.  When I attempt to adjust the time to reflect the actual activity calendar information the constraint information appears.  This happens when I change any activity presenting this problem.

A caveat:  I am aware this schedule template was converted from a P3 template.  I have the anecdotal information confirming this fact. I am also aware the Contractor is using P6, v8.? and our P6 version is 7.0.0.  They convert the schedule to our format for us to make use of in our P6 version.  I am concerned that this issue is presenting underlying problems with durations, etc.

I would appreciate any ideas, comments, thoughts on this matter.

Thank you!

Kathy
