Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Dear All

I have one question here. we as a sub contrauctor, using a whole program along with main contractor and other sub contractors (Baseline issued to us is the program issued by Engineer for the whole project including main contractor and all sub contractor's activity)

When we update the program, we will update our activities but we can't get the right expected completion date of project because we can not update other contractor's activities which link to and will drive our activities (in critical path).

So, my questions will be:

1.How to update the program and get the right outcome as a sub contractor in such a condition?

2.When we receive design change, we will have the event inserted into baseline and get a delayed program, But since we can not get a exactly updated program every single time after we receive Design change from engineer(impossible to require every parties to update the program), how to get the right EOT?

Appreciate for your advise.

Hi Jimmy

Your extension of time relates only to your sub-contract work.

The only reason you need to worry about the main contract completion date is if your own delys affect it.

Hi Mike, thanks a lot. To your opinion of last para, considering there have alread some delay due to other issue when the design change released to us, should the EOT of this design change be the difference between impacted program end and the updated program end? (both of impacted program and updated program will came from the baseline with our activity affects/updates only as per your above opinion)

Hi Jimmy - Welcome to Planning Planet

As a sub-contractor you need to focus on your sub-contract work - you have no responsibility for anything else on the programme. So update your work and let the main contractor worry about the rest - including the contract completion date.

You have a date to complete your sub-contract works within the whole baseline programme which will be interfaced with other sub-contractors. It is most likely that your sub-contract work will form part of the overall critical path but there will be no criticallity in your own work.

If you encounter delays on your work such as design change then impact the event on the relevant task and your EoT entitlement will be the difference between the baseline sub-contract end and the impacted sub-contract end.

Best regards
