Planner, Galliford Try (Infrastructure Division), Southern Water Waste and Water Framework AMP6

Following a successful career at AMP (Asset Management Plan) 5, I was seconded to work on Galliford Try – Southern Water Partnership (GTSWP) AMP-6 contract to deliver Water and Waste Water Treatment projects within the western half of Southern Water’s area (West Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight). Contract value: £250m.

  • Developed detailed Tender Programmes (Work Breakdown Structures, Resource, cost loaded and Earn Value Management), in accordance with the client's specification while conforming to Procurement/Contract Strategy such as New Engineering Contract (NEC3).
  • Visited sites weekly and held regular progress review meetings with project managers and site managers to keep programmes up to date and assure projects are moving forward as planned.
  • Reported project progress every four weeks, as agreed with the Client's reporting cycle (Clause 32.1 - Revising the Programme) or amending the delivery strategy to accelerate the project to deliver early business opportunities/benefits (Clause 36 - Acceleration). In addition, raised Early Warnings (Clause 16 - EW), Compensation Events (Clause 60.1- Compensation Events), impacted on the Critical Path or presenting project impact in the plans and implemented CE and/or Project Managers Instruction (PMI).
  • Developed and implemented Programme Control procedures at the initiation stage to reinforce the defined performance, governance and defined objectives of the AMP6 Programmes. Key controls introduced to supply the accurate and latest project data, established communication methods to report progress, development of key performance indicator system (KPI) and milestone trend.

Achievements:

  • Created clear and concise performance reports by using VBA programming for monthly review processes, board meetings and senior leadership team meetings.
  • Developed 4-week lookahead template for site managers and P6 template for project managers in Microsoft Excel to improve programme update process.
  • Created Subcontractor Programme Review template according to NEC3 Clause 32.1 in order to provide subcontractors with thorough feedback regarding acceptance/rejection of their programme.

Projects:

  • Hardham HV Works;£7.2m project was defined to expand water treatment works to cope with the population increase in West Sussex County. I Developed bid programme according to Works Information Package (WIP) provided by client, and maintained and updated the programme through construction phase. An old storage room converted to a pump house where base slabs were constructed for new High Level Transfer Pumps. HV transformers installed as well as new LCPs and MCC to control new facilities. Security fences installed to improve site security.
  • Goddards Green WTW;a £2.9m project in West Sussex. Developed the programme according to the WIP, maintained and updated the programme from design stage to completion. A new Primary Settlement Tank (PST) constructed to cope with flow increase, new concrete base was constructed for Ferric Dosing plant installed to reduce the Phosphorus and Iron in water, and new MCC installed to control new plant.
