Riverwalk Shopping Centre

I managed the construction of the first regional multistorey shopping centre in Botswana from the Tendering phase through the construction phase to Final Completion.

The Shopping Centre consisted of a Reinforced Concrete frame for the double storey section with a post tensioned slab. The single storey section of the shopping centre consisted of a structural steel portals with brick infill.

The total lettable floor area of the shopping centre is 26000m2 and the anchor tenant was Pick'n'Pay with an area of 2700m2.

I priced the Bills of Quantities and tendered the project and then went on to manage the day to day construction activities being based full time on site. I was also responsible for drawing up the construction schedule which involved close liaison with the etnant fitout requirements as well as co-odinating the electrocal and mchanical services. The schedule was created using MS Project and was updated on a weekly basis. A large part of my role involved identifying risks and changes and formulating claims.

The contract included all the earthworks (Dynamic Compaction), parking and link road construction was well as upgrading the national road that passed the site. The total contract period was 12 months and the project value was the equivalent of GBP22million in todays prices.

The project was completed on time and within budget.
