Senior Planner, Costain, Glen Eyre KLM, Southampton; Project Diamond, Didcot
Planner / Coordinator – Glen Eyre KLM, Southampton (traditional contract with CDPs):
Appointed to plan the £16m refurbishment and extensions to three 3-storey student accommodation buildings. Each had a steel framed single storey roof extension to provide a further floor of accommodation, and a concrete frame / blockwork and PC floor constructed 4-storey extension to the front.
The role involved the planning and monitoring of the design, procurement and construction processes from site start onwards. I controlled information distribution via Costain’s own iCosNet and Comis software.
I also worked on tenders as the office demands and my site workload permitted.
Planning Engineer – Project Diamond, Didcot (traditional contract with CDPs):
I planned the £3m enabling works and a section of the £65m main works at Project Diamond, Didcot, a government funded scientific research facility.
Initially the position involved monitoring and reporting site progress of the enabling works, which comprised cut and fill earth moving, road construction, and piling for the main building.
I also planned the £7m Office Building that followed the enabling works. Having won the 2nd Stage Tender, the role involved close liaison with both the internal and external management teams regarding works package procurement, as well as progress monitoring using ‘S’ curves, sequence drawings and short term programmes using MS Excel, Autosketch and Power Project.
The role then expanded into that of Assistant Project Manager, liaising with the design team on details and package interfaces, assisting in the management of the design process and the general running of the project as a whole.
I also produced the Project Health & Safety File and Operation & Maintenance Manuals in order to facilitate handover of the project on time.
