Senior Planner, KBR, Conlog / TDA
CONLOG / TDA – Construction, Defence, 2004 - 2008 Mark became senior planner for Defence Services planning and scheduling and was responsible for a large number of MoD and Home Office projects, from bids through the entire project life from design through procurement, logistics and construction to completion. This included creation of task lists, WBS, logic-linked / closed-network schedules, critical path analysis, delay mitigation and progress updates on all projects plus the development of an overarching department programme. Mark worked closely with cost engineers, procurement specialists, engineers and project managers to advise on actions pertaining to the schedules and programme. The nature of these projects is varied: construction and procurement are major elements on projects varying from bomb-proof accommodation in Iraq and Afghanistan to water bottling plants and ammunition warehouses. This planning was with Microsoft Project and for the larger projects P3e/c (P5). Particular challenges on these projects arise from complex logistical issues (eg. border crossings) and country-specific regulations, regular hostilities, global-wide shortages of materials and also the sensitivity and urgent nature of the work. Mark has devised techniques for reporting progress that are particularly suited to this challenging situation. Notable projects include the design, procurement, logistics and construction of a water bottling plant for UK forces in Afghanistan and design, procurement and construction of several UK forces camps in Iraq.
