Role: Program Controls Manager - Australia

Simon has over 35 years’ experience in Project Controls after specialising in Project Planning. Recent assignments include;

• Since November 2019 relocated to Melbourne, Australia working on Jacobs major contracts
• 2 years as Director of Program Controls at Jacobs assigned to Metrolinx in Toronto, Canada
• Led Project Controls for CH2M in Europe
• VP Project Services at AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), a major Gold mining company based in Johannesburg working through Turner & Townsend. 
• Planning Director for Qatar rail projects, 
• London Underground (LU) on Project Controls particularly, Project Planning, Earned Value and Document Management systems for over £1B of annual capital investment.

He has driven many change programmes. At Obuasi he built a change and reporting approach that changed the project paradigm. At London Underground he led the design and implementation of an Earned Value management system. In the past he built bespoke Project and Document Control systems and along the way had spells as the IT Business Systems Client.

Simon started on Naval Sonar with GEC before moving to LU in 1997. At LU he became a Professional in Value Management facilitating many workshops improving project delivery and significantly reducing costs. After 20 years in rail Simon has extensive experience of track, rolling stock, signalling, civil works and business change projects plus experience of a variety of contracts PPP's, PFI, NEC etc. Recently in South Africa and Ghana he has developed hands on ore processing and underground mining experience with AGA.

Throughout his career Simon has supported the development of the project profession through active membership of the APM and their Special Interest Groups. In Ghana he initiated a Friday Morning school for all project staff to ensure expats shared their knowledge with the local staff and each other. Outside of the APM he is involved with Project Benchmarking, been a member of the Henley Knowledge Management forum, ran a Value Management client club!
