A comprehensive understanding of the basic scheduling techniques utilized by the construction industry, as well as practical experience with the development and successful application of such techniques to specific contracts, projects, and large-scale programmes.

A working knowledge of the various project delivery systems, the relationships created among the project participants, the scheduling options used, and the strengths and weaknesses that make schedules work successfully.

A working knowledge of the contract documents and the contemporaneous project record keeping systems that should be maintained, and a grasp of how they can be used to substantiate the plans and performance of the project participants.

An understanding of the budgeting, cost estimating, and cost control techniques and procedures used to plan, budget, control, track, and report costs.

Extensive experience with development, implementation, control, and periodic reporting of status versus established plans and schedules.

The ability and experience to conduct a proper delay analysis, that is, determined whether the delay is excusable and compensable.

An understanding of the various labour trades and craft.

Knowledge of and familiarity with industry sources for labour and equipment productivity factors.

A working knowledge of scheduling specifications and what they should include to be effective. Knowledge of the common pitfalls that contribute to failure or abuse of a schedule.

An understanding of key issues such as float, concurrent delay, offsetting delay, constructive acceleration, impact on unchanged work, and the cumulative effect of changes.

Construction field experience and familiarization with construction methods and sequencing.

Experience teaching and training others in the principles, fundamentals, and techniques for planning, scheduling, delay analysis, controlling and reporting for construction projects.
