Dunbar Ian is a specialist Planning Consultant with considerable experience on an extensive range of projects, gained in the transportation, petrochem, engineering and construction and property industries.
After a pupil-ship at John Laing Construction, Ian gained valuable experience at a range of prestigious construction companies progressing his career from Planning Engineer to Project Manager and Head of Computerised Planning
Ian has acted as a Forensic Planner and Expert Witness in UK and overseas since 1986, having given evidence in chief in many arbitrations. He is a Practicing Member of the Academy of Experts, Member of the Association for Project Management and Member of the Society of Construction Law.
He has been responsible as a Project Controls Manager for the preparation of concept engineering and design programmes, materials procurement schedules, financial modelling, man-hour forecasts, information schedules and progress reporting along with analyzing contract delays on many projects comprising: building and commercial property developments, surface and underground railway projects, process and petrochemical projects, offshore and underground projects, water and sewage treatment and distribution projects, power stations, bridges, highways, copper mines, diamond and gold mines.
Ian’s experience and knowledge of building, engineering and construction projects comprise: Light Rail & Underground rail projects in London, Turkey, Hong Kong, Singapore, Rail Property Refurbishment Contracts in London, Design & Build, PFI Contracts, Hospital Trust BOT, new build, refurbishment, building and civil engineering projects, (MEP) mechanical, electrical and public health, tunnelling and mining.
Ian is experienced in using the following project management software systems: MS Project, Primavera, Sure track, Power Project. He also has the ability and background to calculate man hour norms and resource programme requirements and productivity outputs for many project types.
Ian has carried out training programmes for Planning Engineers and Project Controls Managers for several international companies and consultancies’ and has assisted in Mediation, Arbitration and Ligation cases in Africa, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore, has appeared as an Expert Planner giving Evidence in Chief in ten cases and compiled over 20 expert reports.
He has been a visiting lecturer on Project Management at the University of Sunderland in UK and has contributed to the co-authorship of the text book Construction Contract Claims. Ian has also held various seminars on Delay Analysis in UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia
