The Australian Institute of Project Management’s report on ‘The state of project management in Australia 2022’ shows some worrying trends. The survey respondents said:
- 48% of their projects were delivered with stakeholder satisfaction most of the time compared to 52% in 2020
- 36% of their projects were delivered on-budget most of the time compared to 40% in 2020
- 32% of their projects were delivered on-time most of the time compared to 42% in 2020
This negative trend over the past two years is considered to be the result of skills shortages, supply chain disruptions, and other economic constraints. 73% of project professionals surveyed said their projects experienced staff shortages, and 52% suffered from delays in sourcing key roles or skills critical to projects. The flip side of these shortages are increased salaries and other benefits being offered to skilled people.
