Guild Newsflash - Update 2 July 2014
| ||
Dear Planning Planet Members, Dear members, We are writing this newsletter to clarify a few things that seem to have confused a minority of the PP membership. It's fair to say that if you have left PP for a while (what could you have found to replace it?) the formation of The Guild and recent developments would cause you to ask some questions to which we will respond to now. The Guild is a separate entity to Planning Planet: run by the same people but with the aim of generating a Centre of Excellence in Project Controls. Planning Planet will always be linked to The Guild - many members of PP contributed to The Standards of Practice and Role Descriptors for each role on the Career Path Matrix; our goal in the future is to have a new website dedicated to The Guild but at the moment we are a start-up so it does make sense to keep both entities under one roof as it were. The Guild has taken a lot longer than we envisaged to actually launch formulating Standards and Roles across different levels and different functions in Project Controls is NOT a short piece of work (especially when dealing largely with volunteers and also major corporations who have geographical, industrial and departmental differences) We thank everyone for their patience but we believe by being thorough and diligent (in true Controls fashion) and receiving input from both individuals and employers we have all the pieces of the jig-saw in place and over time The Guild will overcome all the issues Project Controls suffers from globally and we all know what those are! WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND ASK FOR MORE OF YOUR KIND SUPPORT FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PROFESSION - PROJECT CONTROLS NEEDS THE GUILD. Planning Planet will always exist and play the part of the marketing arm of The Guild - PP members voted for The Guild in the first place but we do feel The Guild should concentrate exclusively on Excellence and Accrediting those that warrant achieving the various Guild levels. So, PP will carry advertising on behalf of The Guild - sponsorship in its many forms that has enabled us to bring the GPC (Guild of Project Controls) to fruition - without the sponsorship revenue we (collectively) simply could not have formed The Guild. The Guild is run by its members - we do have in place a Governance Council and it will continue to run with the aforementioned ethic; i.e. run by and for its members. We do have Guild Sponsors who are the employers and these may have Centres of Excellence of their own which will be on The Guild pages but their jobs, etc, will be on Planning Planet. So, in summary The Guild is about certification for excellence across the Guild Levels. Planning Planet is a Project Controls community website which will advertise vendor products, jobs (we are trying hard to find members vacancies which are not advertised by dealing directly with Corporations) and all things of interest for the Project Controls Community in general. Additional information (such as how to join The Guild) is also available - www.planningplanet.com/guild We will be running a series of interviews with members of the Governance Council, leading contributors and Guild volunteers as well as the current (and pending) Guild Sponsors - so watch this space for more information and incite in to this great initiative. Keep the suggestions, comments and your collective efforts coming as it is these which are shaping and driving the Guild forward. Thank you for the time taken to read this document.
