Guild of Project Controls (GPC) Update Message

Dear Members,

As you all know, we have been working for some time now on an entity you all voted for in forming the Guild of Project Controls (GPC).   At PP, we have managed with the help and invaluable assistance of many of you to bring this vision to fruition: this year will be the year finally when your Guild will be there for the benefit of you all changing our industry for the better forever.

Why is The Guild such a good idea?

Here are the words of Chris Carson our Guild Standards Editor-in-Chief which we believe manifest the reasons as to why we have all gone through this massive effort.

Over to Chris...

''I’ve been working in a number of the project controls associations for over ten years in order to help improve the basic level of competence and industry acceptance and respect for project controls, and while I’ve seen improvements, the industry still lacks a clear vision of a career path and opportunities to prove progress along that path. A number of the industry organizations are doing very good things related to developing best practices, but none have approached the training and certification from a complete career path perspective. In addition, each organization is somewhat separated from all others, except for individual professionals’ attempts to collaborate between the organizations.

This is what the Guild is doing. With the Guild’s clear career path definition, and the ability for someone to enter onto that path and learn, with mentoring, to progressively improve his or her skills and knowledge, there will now be direction for a project controls professional at any stage of their development. In addition, in the past, there has been no way for someone to easily move laterally across the disciplines of project controls. The Guild helps put anyone on the right path and allows them to cross-train from Planning & Scheduling to Cost Management, or from Cost Management to Forensic Analysis.

In addition, the Guild has taken the first authentically international approach, rather than a country-based approach, to project controls. The development of the Standards of Practice has been driven by professionals across country borders intentionally to bridge the differences between practices in various countries. The Guild also has assembled professionals from many other organizations with the goal to help correlate the various certifications issued by different project controls organizations. This places the Guild at the epicentre of the world project controls industry, spreading world class project controls.''

We will follow up this message with another informing you all of progress.

We do need your help - if you feel your employer or a major employer utilising Project Controls should be talking to us please contact ppadmin@planningplanet.com and we will respond.

This will benefit us all and revolutionise our profession.

Thank you
