Did you know that Asta Powerproject has an enterprise version?

Asta PowerprojectA lot of people use Asta Powerproject simply as a standalone or networked project management software tool.  However, many are not aware that there is also an enterprise version which provides real-time, multi-user access to projects and complete visibility over all projects held on the server.  Whilst it is called ‘Enterprise’, it is really enterprise with a small ‘e’ as it is often used where just 2 or 3 people need to work together on a project.  However, it can easily scale up to 60 users+.

Is it proven?  Of course we’d say ‘yes’.  But why not watch a video of David Tyerman, Planning Director at C Spencer Ltd talking about why they decided to implement Asta Powerproject Enterprise.

What’s the difference between Asta Powerproject and other construction desktop project management software?

It is a fair question.  There are lots of competing tools for you to choose between – Microsoft Project Standard, Project Commander and CS Project to name just three.  So what we’ve done is create a document that clearly states what we believe to be the real advantages of Asta Powerproject over other single user desktop project management software for the construction industry.

Download it here – and see what you think!

Introducing the Primavera Doctor

Help
We've often been asked by you to do this - and we do know that the forums on PP are (in our opinion) the best pages for online Primavera support on the web...

BUT....  Sometimes there are moments when you can't beat an expert! PP has found one... we ask you to respect the anonimity of our Doctor: he / she is a Primavera specialist outside of Planning Planet and whilst we cannot answer everything we'll do our best...

IF... You wish to correspond with the Doctor and NOT have your issues published on the website, please say so in the mail you send to the PrimaveraDoctor@PlanningPlanet.com

ARE... There any more experts out there who'd like to run a column?

New to Linear Projects?

TILOS is time-location planning software for managing linear construction projects such as roads, railway construction and maintenance, pipelines and tunnels. It combines the flexibility of a drawing package with powerful project management functionality.

TILOS Rail Possession Example
Plans are represented on two-dimensional charts with time illustrated on one axis and location on the other.

This enables planners to clearly see, for example, the status of a rail possession project in terms of what needs to be done on each section of the track and by when. This makes potential clashes much easier to identify.

In the UK, TILOS is used by Carillion, Interserve, May Gurney, Morgan Sindall and Babcock, amongst others.

Synchro Professional 4.0 Tackles Hardware Independence.

Synchro announces the new release of its fourth generation software to open the door and take the first steps to bring hardware independence to the 4D construction scheduling community.

"No longer will super-high-end hardware be the critical success factor," said Tom Dengenis, CEO. "Synchro has completed Beta 2 testing and has now released the object-oriented, database platform for the first time."

Objectivity, a Synchro technology partner, offers Synchro users the ability to utilise all three tiers of the typical hardware platform, including the combination of x64 operating systems, graphics card memory capacity, hard disk space, and high-speed input/output to support the database. Even the most challenging 3D models are tamed by the revolutionary solutions developed at Synchro.

Although putting more advanced hardware in place to run the application will always make a positive difference on both software scale and performance, the planning community at large has never been too demanding on the power of the PC through the traditional legacy planning solutions led by world class solutions like Oracle | Primavera.

However, when 3D models become part of the planner's strategic competitive advantage and are an essential component in the delivery process, Synchro brings the planner into this challenging and exciting new process through the use of 4D scheduling and construction simulation: a whole new world of requirements are driven by the CAD industry and the typical

Logan International Airport

planner has normally been left wanting for new, more robust hardware.

Engineering software and CAD especially has always pushed the boundaries of the workstation hardware and today is no different. While the planners and schedulers lived in the standard office PC world as CAD users were afforded the best workstation hardware, these two worlds have now converged.

While it would be quite nice to see every planner in the world gain the resources and funds to upgrade to the super-workstations that generate these fantastic designs and super-sized 3D models, the reality is that such a vision too often simply proves to be impractical.

Synchro's part in all of these dynamics is to support a smooth transition for the planner into the new world of BIM. Synchro has set out to do its part to gain an edge for planners and support their efforts to gain all the benefits of entry into the highly productive side of virtual design and construction via BIM.

Synchro

Synchro's efforts have come through smart thinking, great software engineering skills, focus and hard work by a fantastic global team at Synchro and great technology partners like Objectivity and TechSoft 3D.

We encourage all users to upgrade to our fourth generation version of Synchro Professional 4.0 and place your order for the new database module now sold separately in order to see just how wide we can open the door to larger models on the existing hardware of our users. Read More.
