Lead Planner and Package Planner, Black & Veatch, Kusile Power Station
Current Role - Package Planner on Eskom Kusile Power Station in South Africa. Employed by Black & Veatch. Project consists of 6x800MW coal-fired units and all BOP elements on a green field site.
Interfaces with Construction and Commercial management staff and with the Controls and Instrumentation contractor. Reviews contractor programmes, providing feedback to contractor and reporting status to Project. Develops and inputs logic and status updates for Project Master Programme. Provides reports and analysis for Project and corporate management. Participates in claims preparation and defense. Mentors project team members (employer and client) in Planning principles and practices. Supports constructability planning. Reviews performance of direct reports. Supports transition of Lead Planner responsibilities (am returning to States at end of assignment) to new Lead Planner.
As Lead Planner (in addition to above), recruited planners in host country. Supervised planning team that expanded from 5 persons to 12 persons, with a blend of expats and local hires. Assisted in developing Skills and Knowledge Transfer program (planner-specific portions) for client. Wrote procedures and guides for Planning. Coordinated with Cost to establish cash flows and forecasts. Organized, directed and reviewed all schedule reporting for internal and external customers. Managed planning interface with client management at project and corporate levels. Directed the execution of replans to accomodate client cashflow restrictions. Provided schedule impact analysis for proposed changes.
