2009 – 2011 Planning Manager
To deliver £700 million of Nationals Grid’s capital expenditure programme over a five year period, for the development, upgrade and re-enforcement of the electricity transmission network. This is an unincorporated joint venture between Mott MacDonald Limited, Skanska Limited and Areva Limited.
Working as one of the operational mangers for the programme manager, work involves managing a team of up to 20 people, including four team leaders to provide project planning support to projects being delivered by the Alliance from concept through to close out.
Key period responsibilities include:
- Deputise for the programme manager
- Redevelopment of a streamlined and robust planning process
- Day-to-day team management
- Project and target cost reviews
- Resource and capital spend reviews
- Full life cycle, civils and system outage and resource planning support
- Earned value analysis and reporting
Other specific responsibilities:
Representative for the South East Alliance at the National Grid Pan Alliance (six Electricity Alliances) programme manager and planning forums, developing and streamlining methods, encouraging knowledge sharing and collaborating information on lessons learnt.
The role enabled further development of man management skills while providing the opportunity to apply lessons learnt from other industries. The development of the planners into valued members of the project team, by them adding value/challenging assumptions, is the key to this role.
