Sir Robert McAlpine Planner

START Date:
January, 2007
Within the Scottish Region, I the responsibilities I had were split into two portions, Tender planning and Project planning.

With in Tender planning I would be tasked with creating a Tender Programme, a general Project Construction Methodology & Sketches for illustrating the Construction and Logistical sequence. There would be on occasion the need to forecast labour resource for the whole project and specific trades, thus creating histogram’s. SRM mainly concentrated on Second stage tenders, but the few tenders which were traditional single stage tenders , I would create a cash flow & histogram for the submission. That would then be baselined for future anaylsis.

The Project Planning portion of responsibility consisted of four main areas, Contract & Construction programme revisions, As built & Progress Reporting, Short term Programming & Data Analysis. The Contract & Construction programme would be revised inline with what is happening on site and can be practably achieved, with Design & Project Team and also Sub Contractors buying into the revised programme. Asbuilt Data & Progress Reporting is very important as it will give protection and forecast how the health of the project is, with a snap shot at a specific point in time. Short term programming is a very intensive process with micro programme being made for 4 weeks at a time. This also gives much more specific information about installation rates. Data Analysis is the use of forecast, actual cash flow and asbuilt data to give the a decent picture of how the project progressed.
