Hit the Members hyperlink above then enter hind as your text to search for. It will give you several results of members with hind located somewehre in their record.
You will see that your PP id number is in blue and when clicked opens up a blank email form, already addressed to you.
You will notice one or two which do not have blue PP id numbers and no amount of clicking will open up a similar email dialogue. They pressed the option, in the user data-file to hide their email addresses from the members.
I have found the e-mail feature from the member list very helpful. We have received a number of referrals from PP who filled out contact forms / brochure requests on our site with incorrect e-mail addresses. We were able to fulfill their requests thanks to PP having their correct address available. I have not experienced any negative consequences from having my e-mail "live" there either.
The private message option would be good. I expect that the majority of members are probably not aware that they can e-mail members from the member page. Even if they are, they may like an option to contact someone anonymously through the PP.
I suppose I can live with posting job requests in one forum only. Although I would prefer that sort of thing be handled outside the forums via the Job Page or some such mechanism. Job openings should be posted to Job Page. Thats what it is for, isnt it?
Sorry, I forgot to engage brain before replying. I do not know how often those hyperlinks are used. They simply open a mailto link which uses each persons email client. Hence we have no idea how mch they are used. I guess if you or I choose to show our email address, this must be under the premise that we do not mind the odd email!
I wont change the script, or turn it off in the short term. I guess if it is useful, it is useful!!
I thought the Private Members Post was what we would use to communicate ? I have only used it very infrequently (once to Bernard and once to another PPer). Before you turn it off, can you tell how much traffic it gets ?
Agree on your suggested Disclaimer and Forum Guidelines and I will get them put on the Post a Reply and the Post a New Topic Page.
In regard to contacting people via the site. I think we should have a simple mechanish whereby a private email can be sent (by logged in members) to another member. A simple thing to sort out. We could fix it such that the sender does not get to see the recipients email address, thereby maintaining email privacy. A sort of private message post rather than a forum post. What do you think?
You may be aware that when a member states , when he/she joins the group, their email address is then obtainable via the members page. I think maybe we should turn that off?
I agree. There is benefit in PP being used by people to offer their services. I guess we must just police it carefully.
Guidelines for posters would be good, as would a disclaimer on behalf of PP, who obviously can make no representation as to the ability or suitability of anyone recruited through this site, or to the accuracy of any information posted.
Guidelines (please add):
No personal info (email, phone, fax, whatever).
No posting of CVs in a topic, summary only.
Posters can send email privately via the site ?

I have been operating on the belief that we do not allow the posting of job requests in any forum other than the Job Services forum. I agree with you that it is tacky and ruins the feel of a discussion forum to allow it elsewhere. Whenever I see such in the wrong forum, I delete it in its entirety and replace it with a message stating that a request for a job was posted in the wrong forum.

Yes I am, but only there. Job requests seem to me to be a Project Services Career Issue.

So you are in favor of allowing these posts in the Project Services Career Issues forum then?
