To have exclusive access for all ur projects, Go To C: drive, Windows, P3.ini
In EditActID... = 0,
change it to 1, this will give you exclusive access always.

For your second point, there is no solution to increase the activity description field up to 48 characters.
Nevertheless, I can imagine 2 solutions, there are not nice but these could help you.
First should be to use the "LOG" field, you are also limited to 48 characters but you can use several line and to make them visible on your bart chart. Problem is that this will modify bar definition for all your activities.
Next solution should be to copy/paste your text as an "Object" and to attach it to your bar.

To change an activity ID, you must have Exclusive
access to the project. In the Open a Project dialog box,
select the project you want to open, mark the Exclusive
checkbox, then click OK to open the project with
Exclusive access. That should allow you to rename your activity ID.
