Actually Inevitably , i must admit i had this problem of not evaluating the -ve floats properly.although i did envisage a fair amount of the description that you forwarded to me in your reply.

I do not quite understand the second part of your message.

Late dates can be earlier than the early dates for an activity. This happens when you have negative total float. Having negative total float means that you are finishing your project later than your imposed finish date. Your late dates show the latest dates you must execute your activity in order to meet your imposed finish date. All this is saying that you must execute the driving activities that are behind schedule, earlier than scheduled (by your early dates) in order to meet the deadline.

In the case you have a constraint that is driving this negative float instead of your imposed finish date, then the above holds true for your constrain finish instead of for your project finish.

If you need to know what activities are driving the project finish, you need to look at a longest path report.
