Target is used for comparison.

It’s better to have a target before you updating it.

it’s the start point of the schedule, then you can compare actural progress against the target to see the performance.



why not creat a target at the end of the project?

The target file is the baseline (or contract) schedule. Usually the data date is the project start date.



You can also create additional target such as the schedule calculated during your previous updates or calculated schedule with different scenario (what-if), etc.



The file you are updating is the Current schedule. The data date of which is your cut-off date of recording progress.



You create Target for comparison with your Current Schedule.
