Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

P3 Manuals - available in the CDs as PDF. But not quite well written.

The P3e manuals (also stored in the CDs) are good.

Best way is to get Authorized Training. The training manuals are written well. Plus, you can ask the trainer to clarify ANYTHING that’s vague. Nothing beats a live training.

Best

Dear Rollen Lopez,

It’s actually called the PMBOK (Proj Mgt Body of Knowledge).

In my previous message, I mentioned that you need three things to be effective in PM:

1. Theory (c/o PMBOK)
2. Primavera
3. Experience

I’ve written a book that covers the first 2 and have integrated it into a PM/Primavera course at the MIT (Mapua Institute of Technology). Course duration is 3 months (once a week). Course Fee is P3,500 (if you’re an undergrad) and P35,000 if your a professional already.

This way, I intend to open the opportunity of PM to Filipino engineers. I’ve already trained and authorized 2 trainers from this university (i’m quite picky) who teach the course for me.

I also conduct official Primavera courses using Primavera official manuals. With Primavera certificates! This assumes, though, that you already know the PM basics, which is rare unless you’re a certified PMP - Project Management Professional.

By the way, FYI: If you review the PMBOK, you will see that the enterprise version of Primavera (P5) conforms to the PM Knowledge Areas espoused by the PMBOK. P3 doesn’t.

You can go to www.pmi.org to order your copy of the PMBOK. But then you’ll have to shift to P5 to really be able to address the whole gamut of the 9 knowledge areas: Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Risks, Human Resources, Procurement, Communication and Integration.

Best regards,

Jorge

Checklist for resource and cost management using P3.

1. Theory - refer to the PMBOK.
2. Software Training - there’s an advanced P3 course on resource & cost managemnet. (I teach this).
3. Actual Project Experience.

You need all three to be successful.

One more note: If you’re really managing resources and costs in P3, you may want to consider moving to Primavera Enterprise (I also teach this) since this is a more powerful tool in this area.

Best regards,

Jorge
